A Statement from Attorney General Douglas F. Gansler
A Safe and Happy Fourth of July

Baltimore, MD ( July 4, 2013) - "As we gather today with family, friends and neighbors to celebrate our country's independence, let's do so safely and responsibly. Many brave men and women in the military fought - and continue to fight - for the ideals embodied in our Declaration of Independence. And many others - our police, firefighters, and first responders among them - work to protect those ideals here at home.

Let's make their jobs easier today and every day by looking out for the safety of those around us. Too many holiday celebrations are marred by dispiriting stories of car wrecks, fireworks mishaps, and other preventable tragedies. Let's make sure the headlines we see tomorrow reflect the true spirit of July 4th - patriotism and community, freedom and opportunity, justice and equality."
