Caregiver Indicted for Abuse of a Vulnerable Adult
Baltimore County man faces up to 15 years in prison

Baltimore, MD ( June 20, 2013) - Attorney General Douglas F. Gansler announced today that Ronald Gordon Barnes, 53, of Lochearn, was indicted by the Baltimore County Grand Jury on two criminal counts stemming from an incident that occurred on December 6, 2012.

Barnes is charged with one misdemeanor count of abuse of a vulnerable adult and one misdemeanor count of assault. The assault charge carries a maximum penalty of 10 years' incarceration and/or a maximum fine of $2,500. The abuse charge carries a penalty of up to 5 years' incarceration and/or a $5,000 fine.

An arraignment date is pending. A criminal indictment is merely an accusation of wrongdoing, and a defendant is presumed innocent until the State proves the defendant guilty beyond a reasonable doubt.
