Attorney General Gansler, State and Local Law Enforcement Holding
1st Annual Statewide Gun Turn-In on Saturday, May 11
Residents in every region of the state will be able to drop off unwanted firearms, no questions asked

Baltimore, MD ( May 6, 2013) - Attorney General Douglas F. Gansler is partnering with the Maryland State Police and local law enforcement in this inaugural statewide gun turn-in day to provide residents an opportunity to voluntarily and safely dispose of their unwanted firearms. State and local enforcement agencies will be on hand at multiple gun turn-in locations this Saturday, May 11 to accept handguns, rifles and shotguns for safe disposal. No personal identification is required and no advance appointment is necessary.

"Any Marylander who has a gun that is no longer wanted will be able get rid of it safely, no questions asked," said Attorney General Gansler. "Our goal is to provide a simple means for families to make their homes and communities safer. I want to thank the Maryland State Police and the many county and local law enforcement agencies for their hard work building safer communities throughout Maryland and making this statewide public safety event possible."

Gun turn-in locations can be found in 20 of Maryland's 24 jurisdictions with drop-off points convenient to every resident. You need not turn in a firearm in the county where you reside. All locations and times can be found at the 1st Annual Statewide Gun Turn-In Day webpage on Attorney General Gansler's website.

Any type of firearm will be accepted and it need not be in working order. Individuals turning in guns should transport and handle them safely, making sure they are unloaded, and follow any instructions given by the law enforcement officer upon arrival at the gun turn-in location.

Once surrendered, the firearm may be processed through law enforcement databases to determine if it has been reported as being stolen or flagged as being used in the commission of a crime.
