Baltimore Co. Caregiver Indicted for Abuse of a Vulnerable Adult
Nursing home employee allegedly assaulted 84-year-old resident

Baltimore, MD ( March 21, 2013) - Attorney General Douglas F. Gansler announced today that Raphael Nyong Asinyang, 43, of Randallstown, was arrested following his indictment by the Baltimore County Grand Jury on two criminal counts stemming from an incident that occurred November 7, 2012 in a Randallstown nursing home. It is alleged that Asinyang, who was employed as a caregiver in the nursing home, physically assaulted an 84-year-old male resident.

Asinyang is charged with one misdemeanor count of abuse of a vulnerable adult, as well as one misdemeanor count of assault. The charges carry maximum jail sentences of 5 years and 10 years, respectively, and maximum fines of $5,000 for the abuse charge and $2,500 for the assault charge.

Arraignment is scheduled for April 11. A criminal indictment is merely an accusation of wrongdoing, and a defendant is presumed innocent until the State proves the defendant guilty beyond a reasonable doubt.
