Severna Park Man Sentenced for Criminal Misappropriation
BALTIMORE,
MD ( Jan. 13, 2011) - Attorney General Douglas F. Gansler announced today that William Ray Miller II, 39, of Severna Park, pled guilty and was sentenced on one count of misappropriation by a fiduciary. Anne Arundel County Circuit Court Judge William C. Mulford II sentenced Miller to one year in jail. Miller is already serving a 10-year federal sentence on an unrelated fraud case.
The investigation that revealed Miller, acting as an insurance agent, took premium money from Wilson Financial and its affiliate, W.E. Memorial Acquisitions in 2003. Miller took the premium money for insurance policies he never placed and he also misappropriated some premium money from a legitimate insurance policy he did place. Miller kept the money and, at one point, paid the insured’s claim from a business he controlled to conceal the ongoing fraud. The total amount of the fraud was $383,284.42.
The conviction follows a joint investigation by the Insurance Fraud Division of the Maryland Insurance Administration, the Maryland State Police and the Office of the Attorney General.
