Social Worker Found Guilty of Felony Theft
BALTIMORE,
MD ( October 6, 2010) - Attorney General Douglas F. Gansler
announced today that Michael Ryan, 53, of the 12000 block of Seabury
Lane in Bowie, was found guilty of 22 counts of Medicaid fraud and
felony theft after a court trial in Prince George's County
Circuit Court.
Between January 2005 and September 2007, Ryan, a licensed clinical
social worker, billed the Maryland Medicaid Program for over $35,000
of mental health services that he never rendered. Multiple witnesses
testified that their children did not receive any mental health
services from Ryan. The Honorable Maureen Lamasney scheduled sentencing
for November 12, 2010.
The case was investigated
by the Attorney General's Medicaid
Fraud Control Unit with assistance from the Maryland State Police.
In making today's announcement, Attorney General Gansler
thanked Assistant Attorney General Tom Rafter and Medicaid Fraud
Control Unit investigators Shannon Beatty and Peggy Gayhardt for
their work on this case.
