Kosher and Halal Foods
Disclosure Forms Available Online
BALTIMORE,
MD ( September 28, 2009) - Attorney General Douglas
F. Gansler announced today that disclosure forms required for
businesses selling unpackaged Kosher or Halal food may be printed
from the Office of Attorney General website or requested from
the Consumer Protection Division. Maryland law requires businesses
that sell unpackaged Kosher or Halal foods to post the disclosure
form in a prominent location that informs customers of the
basis for their claims that their food complies with standards
for such products.
“Posting these forms online and having them available by
mail makes it much easier for businesses to comply with Maryland
law,” said Attorney General Gansler. “Consumers can
now readily determine if a business sells food products that meet
their standards.”
The forms may be printed
from the Attorney General’s website
at www.oag.state.md.us/consumer/kosher or may be obtained by calling
the Consumer Protection Division at 410-576-6557 or toll-free at
1-888-743-0023.
Consumers who wish
to file complaints against businesses that claim to sell Kosher
or Halal food products but have not posted
the required forms may do so on the Attorney General’s website
at www.oag.state.md.us/consumer/complaint.htm or by calling 410-528-8662
from Baltimore or toll-free at 1-888-743-0023 elsewhere in Maryland.
