Perry Hall Man Convicted of Tax Fraud
Attorney General Douglas F. Gansler announced today that John
T. Chalk, Jr., 47, of Durness Court in Perry Hall, Maryland, pled
guilty in the Circuit Court for Baltimore County to a tax fraud
scheme, stealing $78,086 from the State government. The Honorable
Susan M. Souder ordered a pre-sentence investigation and set sentencing
for March 1, 2007.
The investigation disclosed that Chalk received $78,086 in fraudulently obtained
tax refunds over the years 2002 to 2005. Chalk admitted to using false names
and false social security numbers to obtain nine of the twelve fraudulent refunds.
Chalk’s conviction follows an investigation by the Criminal Investigations
Division of the Office of the Attorney General. Attorney General Gansler thanked
Assistant Attorneys General Paul Budlow, Emmett Davitt, and Benjamin Harris
for their work on this case.
