CURRAN TO RECEIVE LAW ENFORCEMENT AWARD FOR DOMESTIC
VIOLENCE PROTECTION
On Wednesday, December 13, 2006 Maryland Attorney General J. Joseph
Curran will receive the Hopeline Law Enforcement Partnership Award
from Verizon Wireless and the Verizon Foundation.
In addition to the award, Verizon Wireless and the Verizon Foundation
will also be providing $300,000 to eleven Maryland nonprofit organizations
to bolster their statewide domestic violence programs---$10,000
of that will be provided to the Maryland Network Against Domestic
Violence in Mr. Curran’s name.
Attorney General
Curran is a longtime supporter of Verizon’s
Wireless HopeLine program which distributes phones to victims of
domestic violence and supports nonprofit domestic violence advocacy
groups.
“For years, domestic violence victims have known that they
have a tireless champion and friend in Joe Curran,” says
Tami Erwin, regional President for Verizon Wireless.
“This is an extraordinary commitment, “ says Curran. “State
officials are well aware that we can’t fix the problem of
domestic violence alone, but when a corporation like Verizon steps
to the plate with this kind of financial contribution, that’s
a big step forward.”
