FORMER PAYROLL SUPERVISOR PLEADS GUILTY
TO FELONY THEFT
Maryland
Attorney General J. Joseph Curran, Jr. announced today that Kimberly
Ann Whitacre, age 35, of the 7700 block of West Shore
Road in Pasadena, was convicted of felony theft by the Honorable
Joseph P. Manck in Anne Arundel Circuit Court. Ms. Whitacre plead
guilty to stealing $51,182.97 from her former employer, the Allegis
Group, Inc., a staffing company headquartered in Hanover, Maryland.
The State’s investigation revealed that from January 7,1998
until September 11, 2003, Whitacre was a supervisor in the payroll
tax department of the company. In her trusted position, she had
access to employee salary and payroll deduction information stored
in the company’s electronic payroll system. For more than
five years, Whitacre unlawfully used her system access to manipulate
her personal tax records in order to steal money from the Allegis
Group. Whitacre’s scheme caused Allegis Group to pay $51,182.97
in tax withholdings personally owed by the Defendant.
Allegis Group
discovered the theft and actively participated in the criminal
investigation conducted by the Criminal Investigation
Division of the Attorney General’s Office.
Sentencing is scheduled for February 6, 2007.
