FORMER INSURANCE AGENT CHARGED WITH FELONY INSURANCE
FRAUD AND THEFT
Maryland Attorney General J. Joseph Curran, Jr. announced today
the filing of felony insurance fraud and felony theft charges against
Jerry M. Culpepper, 56, former insurance agent and owner of the
Culpepper Insurance Agency located in the 6700 block of Belair
Road. The indictment follows a joint investigation by the Insurance
Fraud Division of the Maryland Insurance Administration and the
Office of the Attorney General.
In a twenty-one-count criminal indictment filed in the Circuit
Court for Baltimore County, Culpepper was charged with misappropriating
approximately $13,700.00 in insurance premiums from numerous clients
who had been insured by the Maryland Automobile Insurance Fund.
The alleged thefts occurred between February of 2004 and February
of 2005.
If convicted, Culpepper could face up to fifteen years in prison
on each felony count. No trial date has been set. A criminal indictment
is merely an accusation of wrongdoing, and every individual is
presumed innocent until the charges are proven by the State.
