CURRAN KICKS-OFF NATIONAL CONSUMER PROTECTION WEEK
AG to Highlight Consumer Issues February 5-11
Maryland Attorney General J. Joseph Curran Jr. reminds all Maryland
citizens that today is the start of National Consumer Protection
Week, and that his office will use this week to spotlight important
information of which consumers need to be aware. If there are consumer
questions or consumer-related stories the media would like assistance
with, Attorney General Curran will be available all week.
Attorney General
Curran’s Consumer Protection Division received
12,124 complaints from Maryland residents in 2005 and through its
mediation efforts helped those residents obtain $ 3,539,702.99
in financial relief. However, Curran’s Consumer Protection
Division does more than just mediate complaints, it also registers
home builders and health clubs and offers all kinds of free consumer
educational information. To see for yourself go to www.oag.state.md.us
and click on Consumer Protection.
For the next four days Attorney General Curran will author a series
of press releases aimed at Consumer Protection issues this office
believes Maryland consumers are highly interested in at this time:
- Tuesday,
February 7th— Our
Health Advocacy Unit, how it can help you
- Wednesday,
February 8th— Identity Theft, (Report Released
and noon Press Conference)
- Thursday,
February 9th— Consumer
Advice–avoiding problems
in the marketplace
- Friday,
February 10th— Consumer
Advice – resolving problem
when they arise
Once
again AG Curran would like to remind all Marylanders to visit
his website and take advantage of the vast array of information
and services available on this web site.
