CHIROPRACTOR SENTENCED
Attorney General J. Joseph Curran, Jr. announced today that Woody
Dorcely, age 33, of 500 South Frederick Avenue, Gaithersburg,
Maryland, was sentenced today by Montgomery County District Court
Judge Gary C. Everngam on four counts of Practicing Chiropractic
Without a License and 2 counts of Misrepresentation that he was
authorized to practice chiropractic. As to the first count of
Practicing Chiropractic without a license, Dorcely was sentenced
to six months to the Department of Corrections, which was suspended,
and he was placed on two years of supervised probation. Dorcely
was also ordered to pay a $2000 fine and to complete 100 hours
of community service as conditions of his probation. The community
service cannot be completed in the health care field. Dorcely
received an additional six-month sentence and fines on the remaining
counts, which were imposed consecutive to the first count, and
which were also suspended.
The sentence
follows Woody Dorcely’s September 21 trial
and convictions for unlawfully treating patients at Genesis Chiropractic/
Wellness Center, a former Silver Spring chiropractic office owned
and operated by Woody Dorcely. Mr. Dorcely has never been licensed
to practice chiropractic in Maryland or any other state.
The case was
investigated and prosecuted by the Criminal Investigations Division
of the Maryland Attorney General’s Office with the
assistance of the Maryland Board of Chiropractic Examiners and
the Maryland State Police.
