Attorney General J. Joseph Curran, Jr. announced today that Woody Dorcely, age 33, of 500 South Frederick Avenue, Gaithersburg, Maryland, was sentenced today by Montgomery County District Court Judge Gary C. Everngam on four counts of Practicing Chiropractic Without a License and 2 counts of Misrepresentation that he was authorized to practice chiropractic. As to the first count of Practicing Chiropractic without a license, Dorcely was sentenced to six months to the Department of Corrections, which was suspended, and he was placed on two years of supervised probation. Dorcely was also ordered to pay a $2000 fine and to complete 100 hours of community service as conditions of his probation. The community service cannot be completed in the health care field. Dorcely received an additional six-month sentence and fines on the remaining counts, which were imposed consecutive to the first count, and which were also suspended.

The sentence follows Woody Dorcely’s September 21 trial and convictions for unlawfully treating patients at Genesis Chiropractic/ Wellness Center, a former Silver Spring chiropractic office owned and operated by Woody Dorcely. Mr. Dorcely has never been licensed to practice chiropractic in Maryland or any other state.

The case was investigated and prosecuted by the Criminal Investigations Division of the Maryland Attorney General’s Office with the assistance of the Maryland Board of Chiropractic Examiners and the Maryland State Police.
