CHIROPRACTOR
CONVICTED IN MONTGOMERY COUNTY OF PRACTICING WITHOUT A LICENSE
Attorney General J. Joseph Curran, Jr. announced today that Woody
Dorcely, age 33, of South Frederick Avenue, Gaithersburg, Maryland,
was convicted after a trial on September 21, 2004, of four counts
of practicing chiropractic without a license and two counts of
misrepresenting to the public that he was authorized to practice
chiropractic in Maryland. Montgomery County District Court Judge
Gary C. Everngam presided at the trial. The Court scheduled sentencing
for October 7, 2004. The charges carry a potential penalty, for
a first offense, of six months incarceration, a $2,000 fine, or
both.
The charges stem from the time period between May 2003 and October
2003 during which the Defendant, Woody Dorcely, operated a chiropractic
clinic on Cameron Street in Silver Spring, Maryland, called Genesis
Chiropractic/Wellness Center, Inc. The testimony adduced by the
State proved that Woody Dorcely treated the four patients named
in the charges at Genesis Chiropractic, as well as directed how
an employee, a licensed chiropractor, treated patients at Genesis
Chiropractic. Woody Dorcely has never been licensed to practice
chiropractic in Maryland or in any other state.
The case was prosecuted by the Criminal Investigations Division
of the Attorney General’s Office, with assistance by the
State of Maryland Board Chiropractic Examiners.
