FORMER
INSURANCE AGENT CHARGED WITH FELONY THEFT
Attorney General J. Joseph Curran, Jr. announced today the filing
of felony theft charges against John E. McKenney, Jr., 54, of Prince
Frederick, Maryland. The filing of charges follows a joint investigation
conducted by the Insurance Fraud Division of the Maryland Insurance
Administration and the Office of the Attorney General.
In a one count criminal information filed in the Circuit Court
for Calvert County, McKenney was charged with stealing approximately
$6,000.00 in death
benefit proceeds in July of 2003 from a client who was the beneficiary of
her late husband’s life insurance policy.
If convicted, Mckenney could face up to fifteen years in prison.
No trial date has been set. A criminal information is merely an
accusation of wrongdoing, and every individual is presumed innocent
until the charges are proven by the State.
