DUNDALK
MAN SENTENCED FOR ATTEMPTING TO ILLEGALLY PURCHASE A HANDGUN
Attorney General
J.Joseph Curran, Jr., announced today as part of Operation Crime
Gun, a Dundalk man was convicted of attempting
to illegally purchase a firearm . Operation Crime Gun is a state-wide
prosecution initiative of the Office of the Attorney General which
is funded by the Governor’s Office of Crime Control and Prevention.
It is designed to target individuals who commit gun offenses, and
to keep guns out of the hands of those who are prohibited from
having them.
Recuerdo Harrison Quinto of Dundalk was found guilty of making
a false Application to Purchase a Regulated Firearm by the Honorable
Dennis M. Sweeney in the Circuit Court for Howard County. Judge
Sweeney sentenced Mr. Quinto to one year incarceration with all
but thirty days suspended and two years supervised probation. The
defendant will serve the jail time on ten consecutive weekends
beginning next weekend.
The facts of the case are that the defendant filed an application
in a Glen Burnie sporting goods store to buy a Beretta .40 caliber
semi-automatic handgun. On the application the defendant answered
that he had not been convicted of a felony or a misdemeanor which
carried a penalty of two years in prison or more. Upon investigation
Maryland State Police Tfc. Timothy M. Mullin of the Firearms Enforcement
Section found that the defendant had, in fact, previously been
convicted in Baltimore County of possession of a controlled dangerous
substance with intent to distribute, which is a felony. Conviction
of such an offense disqualifies a person from owning or possessing
a handgun under Maryland law.
The case was prosecuted by the Firearms Trafficking Unit of the
Criminal Investigations Division of the Office of the Attorney
General.
