CURRANS
ENVIRONMENTAL CRIMES UNIT CHARGES
DORCHESTER COUNTY MAN
Attorney
General J. Joseph Curran, Jr. announced today that charges were
filed against an individual for the unlawful filling of State and
private wetlands without a permit in Dorchester County. Mark Dennis
Voinche, 48, of the 2700 block of Toddville Road, Toddville, was
charged in a two-count criminal information with the unlawful filling
of wetlands without a permit at 2730 Toddville Road, between May
31, 2002 and August 29, 2002.
The
filing of a charging document is not evidence of guilt. Voinche
is presumed innocent until proven guilty beyond a reasonable doubt.
The
maximum penalty for unlawfully filling in State wetlands without
a permit is a $1,000 fine. The maximum penalty for unlawfully filling
in private wetlands without a permit is a $500 fine. An additional
penalty for unlawfully filling wetlands is restoration of the affected
wetland.
