BALTIMORE
WOMAN CHARGED WITH
FILING FALSE STATE TAX RETURNS
Attorney
General J. Joseph Curran, Jr. and State Comptroller William Donald
Schaefer jointly announced today that Antoinette Dargan,44,whose
last known address is 517 N. Linwood Avenue, Baltimore, has been
charged in the Circuit Court for Anne Arundel County with six counts
of perjury, felony theft, and tax perjury in connection with the
filing of her 1998-2000 state income tax returns. The criminal information
alleges that Dargan falsified her W-2 withholding tax on her tax
returns and received income tax refunds to which she was not entitled.
All individuals are presumed innocent until proven guilty beyond
a reasonable doubt. If convicted she could be sentenced to a total
of 70 years incarceration and fines up to $2,000.
The
case was referred by the Comptroller's Office, and investigated
by the Office of the Attorney General, Criminal Investigations Division.
