CURRAN CHARGES BALTIMORE MAN WITH INSURANCE FRAUD

Baltimore - Attorney General J. Joseph Curran, Jr., announced today the filing of insurance fraud charges against Lawrence S. Ross, 57, of Baltimore, Maryland. In a single count felony criminal information filed in the Circuit Court for Baltimore County, Ross was charged with making false and fraudulent statements and representations to the United States Surety Company in reference to an application for insurance in December 1997. At the time, Ross was President of Commercial Mechanical, Inc.

If convicted of Insurance Fraud, Ross could be sentenced to serve 15 years in prison and fined $10,000. The filing of charges follows a joint investigation conducted by the Insurance Fraud Division of the Maryland Insurance Administration, the Office of the Attorney General and the Maryland State Police. A criminal information is merely an accusation of wrongdoing and every individual is presumed innocent until the charges are proven by the state. No trial date has been set.
