CURRAN CHARGES HOWARD COUNTY PHYSICIAN WITH FELONY MEDICAID FRAUD

Baltimore - Attorney General J. Joseph Curran, Jr. announced today that a criminal information has been filed in the Circuit Court for Howard County, charging a Howard County physician with Felony Medicaid Fraud. Alfredo J. Herrera, M.D., 54, of the 2900 of Poland Springs Drive, Ellicott City, is a pediatrician whose practice is located on Baltimore National Pike. He is alleged to have performed medically unnecessary services on his patients and to have billed the Medicaid Program $100,000 for performing these services.

This case is being prosecuted by the Medicaid Fraud Control Unit of the Maryland Attorney Generalís Office. While a criminal information is only an accusation and all persons are presumed innocent unless proven guilty, a charge of Felony Medicaid Fraud is punishable by a maximum of five years in prison and a fine of $10,000, or both.
