March 27, 2000

Attorney General J. Joseph Curran, Jr., will be joined by Lt. Governor Kathleen Kennedy Townsend, Superintendent of Maryland State Police Col. David Mitchell, MD State Chair for the MMM, Mrs. Carole Price, former Congressman and new President and CEO of Handgun Control, Inc., Mike Barnes, and other political and religious leaders from around Maryland, for the kick-off announcement of the Million Mom March.

The announcement will take place Tuesday, March 28, at 12noon, at Lawyer’s Mall, Annapolis. The mission of the MMM is to call for the licensing and registration for all handguns, passage of sensible gun control legislation, such as gun safety locks, the enforcement of existing gun laws, and other gun control measures. The MMM is a nationwide coalition of mothers and will take place on Mother’s Day, May 14, 2000, in Washington, D.C. Maryland’s effort is being coordinated by Mrs. Carole Price, who lost her nine-year-old son John, in a gun-related accident.

The press conference is expected to last approximately 30 minutes.
