HOWARD COUNTY PHYSICIAN INDICTED ON TAX PERJURY CHARGES

Baltimore - Attorney General J. Joseph Curran, Jr. announced today that the Anne Arundel County Grand Jury indicted a Howard County physician on charges of Tax Perjury. Alfredo J. Herrera, M.D., 54, of the 2900 block of Poland Springs Drive, Ellicott City, Maryland is alleged to have unlawfully declared personal expenses as business expenses on his tax returns for the years 1996-1998.

The case is being prosecuted by the Medicaid Fraud Control Unit of the Maryland Attorney Generalís Office. While an indictment is only an accusation and all persons are presumed innocent unless proven guilty, a charge of Tax Perjury is punishable by a maximum sentence of ten years in prison.

A trial date has not yet been set.
