Cecil Grand Jury Indicts Man in Insurance Fraud Case

June 28, 1999

Maryland Attorney General J. Joseph Curran, Jr. announced today the indictment of a man in connection with an insurance fraud investigation in Cecil County. Charged is 34 year old Thomas J. McVan, Jr.of Phoenix, Maryland.

According to the indictment, McVan is charged with seven counts of felony theft, six counts of fraudulent insurance acts and one count of making false and misleading claims. McVan is a former employee of the victim, Allstate Insurance Company.

The total loss to the victim in this case is over $200,000.00. The charges result from an investigation by the Attorney General's Insurance Fraud Division, the Insurance Fraud Division of the Maryland Insurance Administration, the Maryland State Police, and the Special Investigations Unit of Allstate Insurance Company.

No trial date has been scheduled in the case at this time.
