The Lower
Easter Shore Children’s Center (LESCC) is a twenty-four
bed maximum security detention facility owned and operated
by the Maryland Department of Juvenile Services (DJS).
The facility opened in November of 2003 and is designed
to house male and female youth who have been court committed
or who are awaiting adjudication. The center is divided
into three housing “pods” enabling youngsters
to be separated by gender. “Pod A” was designed
to individually house a maximum of 6 girls; “Pod
B” can accommodate 6 boys in separate rooms; and “Pod
C” is able to hold up to 12 boys – each with
their own quarters. Most youth at the facility are from
the Eastern Shore.
