here are several items for learning more about Maryland's Health
Care Decisions Act and related law:

of the Act (as amended through 2012 legislation).

of the Act.
3. A
description of "health care proxies" - those who make
decisions on behalf of patients who cannot do so personally.
4. Two
PowerPoint slide shows. One presents on the Act's framework for
health care decisionmaking. This
presentation is designed primarily for clinicians.
The
other, on advance care planning and advance directives, is intended
for general audiences.

Documenting
Surrogate Self-Selection
Sometimes
surrogates with equal authority (e.g., adult children) decide
among themselves who they want to act as the sole surrogate.
In terms of the Health Care Decisions Act, the others make themselves “unavailable” by
